New Writing Slider

Last year PTLT ran a writing course which provided eight new writers the opportunity to write eight new plays and to present them for the first time to an audience. And now for 2020 it gives us great pleasure to ask once more:

Starting April 2020, Port Talbot Little Theatre will be providing an intensive writing course for new and emerging playwrights. The program will run for 10 weeks and culminate in a rehearsed reading of all scripts developed in this time. You don’t need any previous writing experience, just an enthusiasm for getting your work on stage.

Writers will create a short 8-10 minute piece which will then be presented to an audience.

The program will run from April 2020 to June 2020.

The date the plays will be performed is TBC.

"The amount the confidence in my writing has grown over the past 10 weeks is unreal. Absolutely recommend, 10/10."

Charlotte, Participant 2019

Over the course of ten weeks, writers will see the development of their work from initial idea to finished manuscript. Workshops are structured so as to allow your creativity to flourish. Workshops will cover core technique, narrative craft, and provide writers a regular opportunity to share their work with peers. In addition, you will be mentored and given regular one-to-one feedback to help your script be the best it can be.

"The sessions were informative, intense and so much fun. The entire process has been a labour of love for us all and the result has been amazing."

Leah, Participant 2019

This program is targeted at new and emerging writers who have not yet had their work professionally produced. We’re looking for writers who feel they would benefit from mentorship, and who would like to see their work presented to an audience. We are looking to create a diverse group of unique voices, and we want to get those voices heard. The only restriction is that you must be 18 years old to apply.

"This has been an amazing experience and having come to it with no previous writing experience, I feel very confident to continue and look forward to working with the tutor again."

Josh, Participant 2019

The course will run every Tuesday between April 21st 2020 and June 23rd 2020 at 7:30pm.

The venue will be PTLT Rehearsal rooms, the hall behind Wesley Chapel, Taibach, Port Talbot.

Please do not apply if you are unable to attend the workshops between these dates.

For successful applicants a course fee of £25 will be payable at the first session.

"I feel that I have developed and fine-tuned my skills, producing work that I didn't think I could. This is such a safe space to discuss ideas, topics, and concerns without judgment, I would recommend it to any writer finding themselves."

Emma, Participant 2019

Applications are now OPEN.

Please email CONTACT@PTLT.CO.UK and register your interest with us.

In addition, please provide a little bit about yourself and what you hope to achieve from the program. Maybe you'd like to write professionally at some point? Or there's something you're burning to write about? Perhaps you'd like to try something new. Don't worry - it's not an exam.

The closing date for applications is Monday April 6th 2020 at midday.

Please note that only successful applicants will be contacted.

Good luck and happy writing.
